An evaluation documenting the achievements of a pioneering Living with HIV programme for a major international, commercial bank.

This longstanding global programme aims to raise awareness about HIV and to reduce stigma, both internally among bank staff and more broadly in local societies.

ASAP was hired to provide an extensive independent analysis of the achievements and impact of this award-winning initiative – one of the first and most significant contributions of the private sector to the global response to HIV. The evaluation analysed the effectiveness of what is one of this international bank’s most high profile sustainability programmes, from a cost and HIV-awareness perspective, and gave recommendations for the future. The report is now being used internally to inform the bank’s future directions.

Process

ASAP established a small team to undertake a rapid and thorough evaluation of “Living with HIV”. Despite its awards and the high value placed on it, the programme had never before been formally evaluated.

ASAP’s evaluation included telephone and face-to-face interviews with key bank personnel at all levels, including at headquarters in London and in branches throughout the world.

ASAP associates conducted site visits in Botswana, India, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa to discuss the programme’s impact and penetration in these important markets, where HIV has been and remains a severe public health challenge.
