Livia is from Italy, but grew up in a multicultural home, which inspired her never ending interest in the different ways humans choose to organize themselves. In her home, she grew up with three native languages – Italian, French and English. Livia left Italy to attend university in New York and graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology. While in university, she immersed herself in the field of gender studies and found her passion. Through her time in New York, Livia acquired a good understanding of Spanish, and started working on her Arabic.
The combination of anthropology and gender led her to the world of development. In 2014, Livia earned a M.A. in Gender and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (Sussex). Livia’s specific interests include social protection and safety nets, sexual and reproductive rights and sex workers’ rights.
Livia most recently worked with ASAP on the logistics planning for the workshop ‘TB/HIV Gender Assessments: Building capacity for TB activists to advance gender equality through Global Fund and national programmes’ that was held in Nairobi, Kenya in January 2015. The workshop was organized with the Stop TB Partnership. The goal of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of TB activists and gender equality advocates to engage at country level in national planning processes. The workshop also focused on strengthening partnerships and engagement between gender equality advocates, TB activists and the Global Fund, Stop TB Partnership and UNAIDS.
The workshop resulted in the development of a core list of gender interventions that will support programming on TB and TB/HIV from a gender equality perspective. In addition, the workshop provided an opportunity for activists to learn about the Global Fund funding model. Participants included experts and activists involved in the fight against TB and HIV/AIDS in four continents and 19 countries.
Livia currently lives between Rome, Berlin and the UK.
